ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY CLASSES TOUR THE CADAVER LAB

Picture
On Friday April 22, the Rochester High School Anatomy and Physiology students took a tour of the Cadaver Lab at the University of Michigan Flint.  There they were able to view and hold plasticized specimens including hearts, brains and torsos as well as view the dissected cadavers completed by the University students.  The students were able to apply their knowledge learned in class to the real life aspect of the human body and it was phenomenal!

THE GREEN CLUB HARD AT WORK!

Picture
Sponsored by Mr. Shurter, the Green Club has been hard at work recycling all classrooms/labs after school every Wednesday. These students volunteer their time and energy to be a part of this service club. Rochester High School has been named a Michigan Green School with Evergreen Status this year, so all of the hard work has paid off!

Below is a list of things we have worked on this year:
  • Recycling all classrooms/labs Wednesday after school
  • Promoting Waste Free Lunches
  • Recyclebank grant received to buy electric hand dryers in four bathrooms
  • Making Michigan Green School Evergreen Status
  • Donated to the Clinton River Watershed Council and World Wildlife Fund
  • Creating videos to spread awareness

GREEN CLUB RECEIVES A RECYCLEBANK GRANT CHECK

Picture
Vital Green Club members Louis Rolland, George Sweda, and Blake Mahorn accepted the Recyclebank Grant Check at the administration building downtown on May 11, 2016. Mr. Shurter was also in attendance but the students stole the show as Loius explained the school project to the audience, which included Mayor Barnett and Dr. Shaner. The grant money was used to replace wasteful and expensive paper towels with efficient hand dryers in student bathrooms. The entire green club would like to thank everyone in the community that donated points to our project. Appreciation also goes to Recyclebank for this opportunity. It was truly a success!

Seven business students from the Rochester Chapter of BPA travelled to Boston to compete in Fundamental Desktop Publishing, Cisco, A++ Programming, Legal Office Procedures, Advanced and Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications and a bunch of Open events. Honorable mentions include Upamanyu, a graduating junior who placed 3rd in C++ Programming and 4th in Computer Programming concepts and Chris Maria who placed in the top 10 for Fundamental Desktop Publishing. The 5 day trip to Boston really showcased the city.  A private 50th anniversary event at Fenway Park complete with World Record Tie Dye wearing attempt, the band; Ambassador X and fireworks, really was special.  Congratulations to all the students that participated. You represent Rochester High Schools finest!

INTERESTED IN GIRLS GOLF??

Attention all parents interested in having your daughter play high school golf.  Girl's golf at the high school level takes place in the fall and begins this year on August 10th.  The season is relatively short, ending around the end of September for JV and the middle of October for Varsity.  Common misconceptions are that girls need to have a lot of experience or be at a certain level to come out for the team.  The truth is that most girls at the JV level have very little playing experience.  We have not had to cut girls from the JV team for several years and most likely can take anyone who comes out to give golf a try.

I would really like to be in touch with anyone who has a daughter that might be interested in coming out for golf.  We have some opportunities for inexpensive group lessons (2 or 3 girls) with a club professional in the community.  Golf is definitely a sport that becomes much more fun for the girls when they can play with a friend.  Please contact Coach Jeff Haney with any questions at jhaney@rochester.k12.mi.us.
