Falcons of Distinction Awards Ceremony

The Falcons of Distinction department awards were held on Wednesday, June 1.  It was a great night celebrating student achievement within each department. Rochester High has a history of tradition, achievement, and excellence both in the community and in the classroom.  Wednesday’s event was another example of a tradition celebrating students’ achievement and excellence within each department.  There are a variety of awards given during the ceremony within each department.  The purpose of the awards are to recognize students that show outstanding educational growth, achievement, improvement, and commitment in a specific department and a specific class.  Congratulations to all of the student award winners.  Your dedication, time, effort, and attitude continues to inspire those around you, and make RHS one of the top high schools in the nation.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse Playoff Action

Picture
The girls lacrosse team’s season concluded last Friday in a regional playoff game with an exciting, closely contested 13-12 overtime loss to Stoney Creek. The Falcons held a 4-1 lead late in the first half, but Stoney Creek came back to tie the game 4-4 at halftime. Playing in high heat and short six players, Rochester battled to a 10-10 tie at the end of regulation. Stoney Creek scored first in overtime, then Claire McPherson and Kendall Jordan responded with goals to give the Falcons the lead before Stoney Creek won the game with two goals in the last thirty seconds.  Kendall Jordan led the Falcons with six goals. Bethany Malinowski added three goals, Bella Weick scored twice, and Claire McPherson chipped in with a single goal. Rochester finished 10-8 on the season, and are co-champions of the OAA White with a 5-1 league record.

INTERESTED IN GIRLS GOLF??

Picture
Attention all parents interested in having your daughter play high school golf.  Girl's golf at the high school level takes place in the fall and begins this year on August 10th.  The season is relatively short, ending around the end of September for JV and the middle of October for Varsity.  Common misconceptions are that girls need to have a lot of experience or be at a certain level to come out for the team.  The truth is that most girls at the JV level have very little playing experience.  We have not had to cut girls from the JV team for several years and most likely can take anyone who comes out to give golf a try.

I would really like to be in touch with anyone who has a daughter that might be interested in coming out for golf.  We have some opportunities for inexpensive group lessons (2 or 3 girls) with a club professional in the community.  Golf is definitely a sport that becomes much more fun for the girls when they can play with a friend.  Please contact Coach Jeff Haney with any questions at jhaney@rochester.k12.mi.us.
