RHS MARCHING BAND PERFORMANCES
The 2015 Rochester High School Falcon Marching Band had outstanding performances at two parades this past weekend. On Saturday, December 5, the FMB travelled to Canada to march in the Sarnia Kinsmen Parade of Lights. On Sunday, December 6, the FMB marched downtown in the annual Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade.
SNUGGLE 4 A CAUSE
The Genius Project launched Snuggle for a Cause into motion after Sociology teacher Mr. Chad Zwolinski encouraged students to do something that our community can benefit from. The idea came from a group of nine girls including Kirsten Beatty, Samaira Rosado, Andrea Franco, Bailey Webb, Julia Randals, Caitlin Ketelson, Jenny Sanclemente, and Anna Archbold. We heard about Mandy’s Place through Brittany Kelso, a social worker that works with the children kept at this facility. The goal was to have people donate blankets so the children could have a sense of ownership. Over 40 students attended the event in which we cut up, decorated, and created blankets to give to the kids of Mandy’s Place. The event was very successful. It was great to see our school and community come together!
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are an investment in our community’s future. By connecting donors, nonprofit organizations and leaders to philanthropic opportunities, we can work together to strengthen the Greater Rochester area.
The Rochester Community Schools Foundation and the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Rochester and the Rochester Rotary Club, provide area students with a vast array of scholarships to promote continuing education. In 2015, nearly $100,000 scholarships were awarded.
The Community Scholarship Application system is now online. To get started, go to: www.rochesterschoolsfoundation.org.
The deadline for application submission is January 31st, 2015.

ART DEPARTMENT FIELD DRIP TO DIA
On Thursday 12/03/15, the RHS art department traveled to the Detroit Institute of Arts to view the current exhibit, 30 Americans. The exhibit featured famous works of contemporary African American artists such as Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The students also were able to enjoy a quick stop at the Detroit Artists Market and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
