Junior MeetingsJunior Meetings are taking place on December 9th and 10th with junior students through their economics or government class. Counselors will discuss the college selection and application process which includes: how to apply to college, college visits, college considerations, college requirements, etc.

Junior Parent Night
Junior Parent Night is taking place at 6:30 pm on December 10th at Rochester High in the F hallway. Parents of juniors are strongly encouraged to attend this presentation given by their child’s counselor. The college selection and application process will be discussed
College day at rochester High School
Rochester High School will be hosting a College Day on January 8, 2016. All seniors expected to graduate in June 2016 will be encouraged to apply for admission to a college or university, if they have not already done so. The purpose of the day is to assist students with the college application process and to communicate the importance of applying to college. All Counselors will be available in the computer lab to answer questions, assist with college applications, sending transcripts and any support or guidance they need with the process. ALL students are encouraged to wear their college gear that day and can also just stop by to share what colleges they have been accepted to!

Rochester community Schools financial Aid night at schs
Want to learn more about the FAFSA? Do you have a senior? Are you looking to borrow money for college? Please attend this informative session about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The presenter will be Greg Little from Baker College. The event will be held at Stoney Creek High School on December 2nd at 6:30 pm.

Suicide awareness classroom presenations

Counselors will be visiting the Health and Wellness class to educate students on the signs of suicide. The goal is for students to be able to identify the warning signs of suicide and to tell an adult of they have concerns.

Warning Signs of suicidal ideation include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Talking about suicide
- Making statements about feeling hopeless, helpless, or worthless
- A deepening depression
- Preoccupation with death
- Taking unnecessary risks or exhibiting self-destructive behavior
- Out of character behavior
- A loss of interest in the things one cares about
- Visiting or calling people one cares about
- Making arrangements; setting one’s affairs in order
- Giving prized possessions away
standardized tests coming spring of 2016
Counselors will be meeting with Sophomores in January to update their Educational Development Plan. Sophomore year counselors help students identify and research a career interest.
Rochester Community Schools uses Career Cruising to facilitate this activity. Please ask your child to see their updated EDP. Students can also use the Occupational Outlook Handbook to gather information about potential careers. |
